EXCERPT FROM THE STUDY

Inexpensive housing can only be defined broadly since people's perceptions of what is affordable vary greatly between cities, states, and economic levels. In general, affordable housing refers to housing that is priced and funded in such a way that low-income residents may meet their other fundamental requirements as well. Despite the fact that the lack of affordable housing impacts all parts of society, low-income workers are disproportionately disadvantaged.

The Nigerian urban housing market is largely targeted at high-income earners, leaving significant segments of the Nigerian population without access to official housing. Low-income families confront a variety of challenges, including a lack of access to housing financing, a shortage of complementary commodities such as land and infrastructure, and a housing supply that is insufficient to satisfy the actual requirements of the urban poor. Many issues have been highlighted as limiting the availability of affordable housing in Nigeria, with land value and the high cost of construction materials being the most significant. As a result, there is a pressing need to investigate alternative construction materials in order to provide enough housing in Nigeria and to reduce building material price inflation. The greatest single input in house construction is building materials
